I had briefly mentioned this sunset outing to the frozen lake a couple posts back (Inside an Ice Crack). In that post, I shared my closing photo of that night. Today, I'll roll back a bit to the moment I came to catch. Having arrived about half an hour before sunset I had time to wonder around and take advantage of the solidly frozen Lake Erie. What do I mean by that?

Without the ice, my movement is limited to the shoreline. With the ice, that restraint is lifted and all of a sudden I am free to wonder in all directions limited just by an initial hesitation before realizing how thick the ice is.

At first, the cracks are an area to avoid but soon I come to realize that's what this sunset is all about. A cold frozen lake, a warm sunset, and a crack in the ice connecting the two.

And then? The confirmation that the Earth is round indeed!
