I was on the edge about the right gallery for this photo: Buffalo and Vicinity? Landscapes? Abstracts? Even water would work. In the end I felt the abstract category was the best home for it.

It is a photograph of a sunset over Lake Erie close to its outlet to the mighty Niagara River, captured from Buffalo's Outer Harbor. This was a very special evening before the sun set - the Venus Transit was visible in the form of a speck traveling across the disc of Sun, which was in fact the planet Venus that was aligned between Sun and Earth. The alignment occurs in pairs eight years apart, however more than a century between the pairs. The next pair is due 2117 and 2125.

This photograph is moments after the Sun dipped behind the horizon along with the Venus spectacle not to be seen again by the current observers, creating a strange feeling and realization of how short life is.
