Fall At Watkins Glen

Fall At Watkins Glen

In Watkins Glen, you will find tall waterfalls and tiny cascades rushing through a deep rocky canyon, one after another. Amazing what one tiny creek can do over a long period of time. Here, Glen Creek really worked its magic. Watkins Glen is a magical place all year round but autumn foliage and flowing water always create extra magic, at least in my eyes.

Nature created the magic and people added walkways, stairs, tunnels, and safety walls. With all of that in place one might think the place would be the same on each visit. But that could not be further from the truth! It can be sunny, it can rain, the water can be high or low, there can be colorful dry leaves in the fall, there are more people one day and fewer another, even as the sun travels across the sky the light in the gorge changes how it all looks. The differences go on and on.

And then for photographs, even if everything were the same, there are always different angles, getting close or far, finding new elements. Erosion is a beautiful thing!

The Watkins Glen park is located in Central New York in the town of Watkins Glen at the southern tip of Seneca Lake. The beautiful 1.5-mile long gorge trail offers a hike along a deep and narow canyon surrounding the Glen Creek. It is not a wild natural setting since the pathways are manmade and offer easy walking, however, that takes nothing away from the canyon beauty in my opinion. It all starts right at the Wakins Glen parking lot and the Entrance Cascade and the Sentry Bridge, followed by more and more beautiful creations of Mother Nature (incl. 18 more waterfalls!).
