Watkins Glen State Park Welcome, the Entrance Cascade, Western New York (NY).

Watkins Glen Welcome

Photography for your home or office walls. Fine art photo prints, gallery canvas wraps, standouts, or other photo products for you or to gift. See selection on the right. Prints can be matted and framed ready to hang.

Watkins Glen is a natural wonder, a deep narrow glen with a rushing stream and so many cascades a waterfall lover will be in paradise! Humans added walkways, stairs, tunnels, and safety walls. With all of that in place one might think the place would be the same on each visit. But that could not be further from the truth! It can be sunny, or rain, the water can be high or low, there can be colorful dry leaves in the fall, there are more people one day and fewer another, even as the sun travels across the sky the light in the gorge changes how it all looks. The differences go on and on.

And then for photographs, even if everything were the same, there are always different angles, getting close or far, finding new elements. Erosion is a beautiful thing!

The Watkins Glen park is located in Central New York in the town of Watkins Glen at the southern tip of Seneca Lake. The beautiful 1.5-mile long gorge trail offers a hike along a deep and narow canyon surrounding the Glen Creek. It is not a wild natural setting since the pathways are manmade and offer easy walking, however, that takes nothing away from the canyon beauty in my opinion. It all starts right at the Wakins Glen parking lot and the Entrance Cascade and the Sentry Bridge, followed by more and more beautiful creations of Mother Nature (incl. 18 more waterfalls!).

The Entrance Cascade pictured here (under the Sentry Bridge not shown) is what welcomes you to the park. You can see it right from the Watkins Glen parking lot. Seriously, how many places welcome you with a gorgeous waterfall even before you hit the entrance and then add 18 more as you go?

Having mentioned different angles earlier, here's my previous view of the Sentry Cascade, and another one of this park welcome.
