Colden Falls, Colden, New York (NY), a waterfall on West Branch Cazenovia Creek.

Colden Falls

This is a beautiful small waterfall that in my experience not too many people know about, short of those living in Colden. A lot of people pass by it on Rte 240 without ever knowing it is there, since it is not visible from it. You can get a nice and easy view of the waterfall from the Heath Road bridge over the West Branch Cazenovia Creek though.

Colden, New York (NY) is located at the intersection of Boston Colden Rd (222), Heath Road (562), Davis Road (240), and Aurora Glenwood Road (240). Lower East Hill Road also ends in Colden. It lies on the West Branch of Cazenovia Creek, which was essential for the original settlement. Colden is near the popular Kissing Bridge skiing area, which is just 3.5 miles south of Colden.

Colden had a population of 3,265 in 2010. It was founded by Richard Buffum of Rhode Island in 1810 (the town was officially formed in 1827), originally known as Buffum Town, Buffum’s Mills, or Buffumshire, and finally Colden, after a state senator and the original Post Office.

Town of Colden - History of Colden

Cazenovia Creek is named after Theophilus Cazenove. It is a tributary to the Buffalo River (near the intersection of Bailey Avenue (62) and McKinley Pkwy), which empties into Lake Erie in Buffalo, New York (NY). Cazenovia Creek is formed from its two branches, East Branch and West Branch, which merge near the intersection of Jewett Holmwood Rd and Quaker Road (20A).

East Branch comes from East Aurora, South Wales, and Holland. West Branch flows through Griffins Mills, West Falls, Colden, Glenwood, and Footes where it is created from Spencer Brook and Graff Brook.
