Winter Sunset over always Changing Eighteen Mile Creek and its mouth into Lake Erie, North Evans - Buffalo, New York (NY).

The Always Changing Eighteen Mile Creek in Winter

The Eighteen Mile Creek gorge is a wonderful natural creation. High rocky cliffs create its walls and are spectacular in all seasons. In winter, water trickling down can create beautiful icy formations. At its final stage, its mouth into Lake Erie, it goes through extraordinary changes. The beaches to its left and right change in size, length, and shape throughout the year under the forces of the lake end the weather. Each visit is unique, the mouth never looks the same.

The cloud cover was rather thick on this night and I had no hopes of seeing the sun. I wanted to capture the ice and snow on and around the creek. But it did come out low on the horizon just before setting, lit up the mounds of snow from the back, and gave the gray sky a dose of life. And as if that was not enough, a flock of geese showed up and found their way right over the bright orange toned patch in the sky!

What a sight!
