The Horseshoe Falls in White and Blue, Niagara Falls

The Horseshoe Falls, frequently referred to as the Canadian Falls, located partially in the United States and partially in Canada, is where most of the Niagara River flows and falls down. In its center, water rushes at 20 miles per hour and a depth of almost 10 feet. The tallest point is 174 feet, and the depth of the river at the base is 184 feet. This wonder of nature is a good example of how much impact people can have - the volume of water is highly regulated by the two hydroelectric power plants, with the most volume going over in daytime during the peak of the tourist season.

This photo was taken after sunset and before the sky turned black, during time commonly called blue hour. The bright white illumination of the falls and the sky nicely balanced to show both and add sense of depth to the photo. Slightly extended exposure provided for sense of motion in the water and also in the mist that rises from the gorge constantly. On this particular occasion the wind conditions were just right to allow me to capture the full width of the Horseshoe without obstructing a significant portion.

A true wonder of nature!
