Cavern Cascade, Watkins Glen State Park, Finger Lakes, New York (NY)

Cavern Cascade, Watkins Glen State Park, New York (NY)

This is one of the gems of New York State that surprisingly many people do not know about. In a way, that is a good thing since despite its beauty the park does not get unbearably crowded, unless you visit on holidays, logn weekends, and when the town of Watkins Glen has visitors over for other events, like NASCAR racing.

The park is located in Central New York in the town of Watkins Glen at the southern tip of Seneca Lake. The beautiful 1.5-mile long gorge trail offers a hike along a deep and narow canyon surrounding the Glen Creek. It is not a wild natural setting since the pathways are manmade and offer easy walking, however, that takes nothing away from the canyon beauty in my opinion. It all starts right at the Wakins Glen parking lot and the Entry Cascade and the Sentry Bridge, followed by more and more beautiful creations of Mother Nature (incl. 18 more waterfalls!).

The Cavern Cascade depicted here is 60 feet tall plunge fall about mid-way through your gorge trail hike.
