A fiery summer sunrise over the skyline of downtown Buffalo, with the sailboats in the Erie Basin Marina in the foreground. The inner harbor always provides a great waterfront feel for photos of Buffalo. For this photo, stormy weather has graced the area with some impressive clouds and the rising sun used them as a canvas to draw fire on. The show happened well before sunrise, and lasted just a minute or two. Its intensity more than made up for the brevity!
In the distance, framed by the mast and forestay triangle, you can see a hallmark of Buffalo's skyline, the Buffalo City Hall.
Erie Basin Marina is one of many great spots on Buffalo's waterfront, providing for boat watching and sunsets across the lake. Storms arriving from the west can be spectacular. When you tire of the lake views, turn around and see the beauty of architecture, or a sunrise if you are early enough!
Buffalo City Hall is the second tallest building in Buffalo, after One HSBC Center, built in Art Deco style. It was completed in 1931 and is 378 feet and 32 stories tall. It was designed by chief architect John Wade and George Dietel. Buffalo City Hall is the seat of the
municipal government of the city of Buffalo.
