Wilkeson Pointe opened to public in June 2013 and was named after Samuel Wilkeson, a member of the Buffalo Harbor Company that brought the terminus of the Erie Canal to Buffalo, He was also the mayor of Buffalo between 1836 and 1837 (between 1832 and 1839 the mayors were appointed by the City Council for a one-year appointment).
