A calm fall weekend morning at Niagara Square, Buffalo, NY. A photograph of two downtown Buffalo icons - Buffalo City Hall and Statler City. The McKinley Monument is off to the right and the white Electric Tower in the background.
The first Statler's Hotel was initially built in 1901 for the Pan-American Exposition in Buffalo, NY. It was a temporary wooden structure.
The original permanent Hotel Statler, at Swan and Washington Streets in Buffalo, was opened in 1907. It was renamed Hotel Buffalo in 1923 upon completion of the new Hotel Statler at Niagara Square to designs by George B. Post & Sons. Hotel Buffalo was demolished in 1968 and Coca-Cola Field was built on the site in 1988. Hotel Statler went through several names, including The Statler, Statler Towers, and today's Statler City.
Buffalo City Hall is the seat of the municipal government of the city of Buffalo built in the Art Deco style. It was completed in 1931. It is 378 feet (115 meters) and 32 stories tall. Buffalo City Hall is the second tallest building in Buffalo after One Seneca Tower.
