Green River, the Snaking Culprit
A culprit caught in the act. A photograph of the Green River snaking through the Canyonlands National Park still working on what it started a long, long time ago. The sight of water in the desert always create a sense of mystery and intrigue. See the greenery along the river banks in the middle of a dry desert?
More mystery is added by the rock formations in the distance that rise up above the seeming flat top of the canyons the same way the Island in the Sky itself.
Canyonlands National Park, located in the southeastern corner of Utah, is spread over a very large area and is divided into districts, each offering a whole different experience. Island in the Sky in the park's north is high above the canyons and offers expansive scenic views of the land below. It is squeezed between two rivers, the Green River to the west and the Colorado River to the east. The other districts of the park are Needles, Maze, Horseshoe Canyon, Rivers.
