Scottish Highland Cattle on a Green Mountains Meadow

Scottish Cattle, also known as Highland Cattle, which is more accurate since that is how they get called where they come from, grazing on a meadow in Green Mountains of Vermont on a beautiful sunny summer day. The late afternoon sun provided a nice warm light and also started casting nice shadows. The white clouds were also casting shadows of their own on the land below. And finally, the distant peaks provided a nice sense of being in the mountains.

Highland cattle is a Scottish cattle breed with long horns and long wavy coats of varying colors. In the twentieth century the breeding got exported beyond the Scottish Highlands, including North America, where this photo was taken.

Green Mountains are located in Vermont, United States, extending from Massachusetts to Quebec, Canada, and are a part of the Appalachian Mountains. The highest point of Green Mountains and Vermont is Mount Mansfield at 4,395 feet (1,340 m).
