Bold colors on the walls, doors, windows, and really everywhere. That is one of the hallmarks of the architecture in the American Southwest. In this photograph from Grand Junction, Colorado, the focus is on a few individual elements not the structure as a whole.
The architecture of the American Southwest has a lot in common with Mexico. After all, the current border between Mexico and the United States is just a political line separating the two countries. Nature does not care, neither did history predating the line. There are a lot of Adobe houses in the area made of the signature adobe brick, which was made of readily available materials and provided beneficial thermal characteristics. Lots of bright colors are also used. I enjoy walking through towns rich in the architecture that is so different from the US Northeast. Arizona and New Mexico has a lot to offer in this regard. However Utah and Colorado have their fair share too.
