Bicycling Loveland Pass, Great Continental Divide, Rocky Mountains, Colorado (CO), US.

Bicycling Loveland Pass

Loveland Pass is at 11,990 feet (3,655 meters) in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. It's on the Continental Divide and can be accessed via US 6. Since the Eisenhower Tunnel opened in 1973 the pass does not get as much traffic since most through traffic remains on I-70 now. However, I-70 does not come even close with the views. Have some extra time? Definitely take this slight detour!

Bicycles can't go on the Interstate but I seriously doubt that is the reason why you will see them climbing the steep include of US 6 up to Loveland Pass. I think the thorough workout and serious sense of accomplishment have more to do with that, as well as the views of the white peaks around and plenty of fresh air!

A continental divide is a drainage divide of a continent. Water on one side drains into one ocean or sea and into another on the other side. The divide passing through Loveland Pass is sometimes also called the Great Divide separating the Atlantic and the Pacific watershed. It runs from Alaska south to the tip of South America.
