Eye to Eye

Bull riding at the Rimrock Rodeo, Fruita, Colorado. I still remember the moment even a year later. I don't know what it felt like for the bull rider but for me behind the camera time seemed to have stopped. After just a few jump jumps and kicks the rider went down, hit the ground, and seemed to have an eye to eye discussion with the bull. The scene looks almost staged but trust me, it was far from that. Within fractions of a second, the rider was back on his feet and the handlers had their hands busy keeping the bull in check.

Whether you stop by for the rodeo only or time your visit to the Colorado National Monument for a Tuesday and finish a day of natural exploration with something a bit more intense, I'd definitely recommend spending the evening at the Rimrock Rodeo. If nothing else, you will get a nice dose of the American West served to you on a plater.

June - August, 4:30 - 9:30. Professional rodeo 7:30 - 9:30.
