Old Door Lock on a Wooden Door, Santa Fe, New Mexico

Door Lock, Santa Fe

Santa Fe offers plenty in terms of architecture, but it is not just the architectural styles and buildings as a whole, there are also plenty of beautiful details to be found, like this old lock on a wooden door.

Santa Fe, New Mexico, was established in 1607. It is the oldest capital city in North America and the oldest European community west of Mississippi. In the 11th and 12th centuries the site was occupied by Pueblo Indians who abandoned the site about 200 years before the Spanish arrived. In 1610, Santa Fe became the capital of the Kingdom of New Mexico under the Spanish crown. In 1680, Pueblo Indians revolted, drove Spanish colonists into Mexico, and took over Santa Fe burning most of it. In 1692 the Spanish reconquered Santa Fe back. In 1821, as Mexico gained its independence from Spain, Santa Fe became the capital of the province of New Mexico. In 1846, early in the Mexican American War, Americans took over Santa Fe. New Mexico, along with California, was ceded to the United States two years later. New Mexico became the 47th State in 1912, with the capital city of Santa Fe.
