The construction of Charles Bridge over the Vltava River began in 1357 by Charles IV and concluded in 1402. It was not called Charles Bridge until 1870. Before that, it had been called the Stone Bridge. It's built from sandstone blocks and is lined with statues on both sides, and towers on each side.
A legend has it that to better keep the sandstone together eggs and milk were used and shipped to Prague from near and far. A scientific analysis did not show eggs but did find milk and wine!
Karel IV. (*1316, +1378) was a King of Bohemia and the first King of Bohemia to also become Holy Roman Emperor.
