Photograph of the Buttermilk Falls on a tributary to the Eighteen Mile Creek at dusk in North Evans, New York. While the summer of 2014 was on the wetter side the late August was not and the water level in this creek was very low. As a result, Buttermilk Falls were reduced to a trickle. That, however, provides the opportunity to showcase other features besides water. In this photograph, that feature became the face of the cliff behind the waterfall.

I really liked the cave like shaping of the rocks and composed to fill the frame with it, cutting out at least two thirds of the waterfall above. The photograph became all about the rocks with the water really just providing the ambiance, as well as an opportunity to imagine the hum of the water while looking at the photo.

To further highlight the textures of the rocks, I am presenting this photograph in black and white. Without the distraction of color it really becomes all about the rocks!
