After a very warm January day with temperatures at 57F and an unusual dose of sunshine clouds rolled in from the west over lake Erie and streamed over the Hamburg Beach at sunset. While the cloud cover was heavy for a traditional sunset some colors showed up over the horizon in the distance and contrasted the blue of the inbound clouds creating a wonderful drama in the sky contrasting the calm waters. Yes, the lake was unusually calm with just a gentle rhythm dancing through the water. The long exposure of over four minutes took care of the final polish.
Hamburg Beach, a very nice sandy beach on the shore of Lake Erie in Hamburg Town Park, Hamburg, NY. The park also includes a boat launch and a year-round fitness center. And in winter, it becomes a launch pad for ice fishing expeditions - that is during solid winters when the lake freezes solid and turns into a frozen tundra. In 1914, Locksley Park Company donated this land to the Town of Hamburg for its citizens recreational use.
