In a Fairy Tale
The Pískovna lake is straight from a fairy tale, both figuratively and literally. It is small but beautiful surrounded by a picturesque rocky shore, located in the Adršpach-Teplice Rocks National Park.
The lake was created by flooding of what once was a sandstone quarry. The national park is a beautiful rock city allowing for charming hikes among the many rock formations. Those familiar with Czech fairy tales may spot a familiar movie location or two.
Unfortunately, as many beautiful locations around the world, this national park often gets overrun by busloads of tourists not only from the Czech Republic but also from Poland, which is within a stone's throw. I recommend off-season and/or a weekday to visit.
