A beautiful bright foaming rush of water spilling over the dark lava shore under ominous clouds of the passing morning storm.

Kaua`i is the oldest of the main Hawaiian Islands and fourth largest of the archipelago. The first European known to reach Hawaii was James Cook who landed at Waimea Bay and named the archipelago Sandwich Islands after his patron, the Earl of Sandwich. Later, king Kamehameha I named the islands after his home island of Hawaii (the Big Island).
