Dramatic Poipu Daybreak Surf Rush over Lava Coastline, Kauai, Hawaii

Poipu Daybreak Rush

Dramatic clouds moving fast overhead, waves rushing in towards the lava coastline, breaking, and spilling over the lava rocks filling the nooks and crevices with the salty Pacific water and eventually spilling over the edge. Then, receding and creating wonderful textures on the way back to the ocean. Each wave different. I could watch for hours.

Kaua`i is the oldest of the main Hawaiian Islands and fourth largest of the archipelago. The first European known to reach Hawaii was James Cook who landed at Waimea Bay and named the archipelago Sandwich Islands after his patron, the Earl of Sandwich. Later, king Kamehameha I named the islands after his home island of Hawaii (the Big Island).
