Brewing Storm over Gallagher Beach, Buffalo Waterfront

July 07, 2012  •  Leave a Comment

Two storm fronts passed over the lake and over Buffalo today. The first one cancelled my planned bike ride, the second one worked its way into my lakefront expedition. A friend of mine told me I lacked day time photos and he was right. We don't live only during the two magic hours, do we? So here's one shot from noon.

For just a short while, there was an intense lightning storm in the middle of the darkness. Despite to having a lightning trigger, I thought I'd try my reaction time. By the time I put the camera on a tripod and added a remote release so that I could keep my eyes on the sky without having to hold the camera to my eye, the storm has moved east. It would have been nice to have a bolt right in here. Oh well, next time.

Buffalo waterfront is a truly great photo location in Buffalo, NY. One gets the view of the western horizon over Lake Erie, which provides for outstanding sunsets. There are also more and more enjoyable waterfront spots providing for pleasant walks, jogs, or bike rides, that also look great in photographs. And as here, most of Buffalo's weather comes over the lake. Being there will make you one of the first to see what's coming!

Have fun!
