Sunset Hum of Lake ErieSturgeon Point, Derby, NY

Out by the lake for today's post, enjoying one of the many wonderful sunsets Lake Erie provides for those living on the southeast shore. I often wish we had another lake right to the east of us for a similar sunrise experience. But maybe I should just be happy with the sunset experience we get because that can be wonderful.

While sunsets and sunrises are somewhat of a cliché how is one to get tired of them? No two are the same. Just the sky alone can make for a huge difference varying from completely overcast to completely clear and all of the steps in between. Usually, it's somewhere in between where the true magic happens with colorful show as if nature put on a fireworks display. But that's not all. Humidity, rain, wind, heat and cold can all modify one's experience. And wildlife. Sometimes, there is none, other times, birds are about, and larger animals too. Last winter, not far from this spot, I had a fox go by as if enjoying the evening the same way I did. All of these different factors change the mood, and have the potential to lead to different photographs if only I can succeed capturing them.

And often the photographs are much less literal expressions of the event and much more reflections of the mood, of what I felt at the moment. It can be all about the intentions, about what I want to share with you in that specific photograph.
