Winter on Lake Erie

Most people head to the beach and to the lake in summer. Not me. A wonderful freezing winter day is what's more likely to get me there. And that's exactly what happened here.

Photo number one was a wonderful and completely unexpected surprise. As I headed for the beach and turned the corner these magical ice formations on the rock wall screamed for attention. And attention they got! I had a blast coming closer, backing away, and changing camera angles trying to isolate the most interesting creations and to capture an engaging composition.

The winter world above the rock wall was no less picturesque. The walkway was one sheet of ice, the rocks were glazed over, and that fence! Huge icicles were stacked one next to the other and were reaching almost down to the ground. What a winter view! I could not have asked for a better set up!

After having loads of fun around the rocks and the pier it was time to walk the rocky beach. And even here I felt like Alice in Wonderland. The artistic icy creations were everywhere, even if more subtle here. The details and the combination of the white ice and a black rock inspired me to click the shutter for this photo.

Oh, and on the technical side, the Cinestistill BwXX also known as Kodak 5222 was perfect for this situation and I look forward to capturing more winter scenes with it. What a winter photo outing!
