The Nature Conservancy's Blowing Rocks Preserve offers something one might not expect in Florida. Florida is known for its straight stretches of sandy beaches lined with hotels and condominiums. It's not known for rocky beaches resembling the lava rock lined beaches of Hawaii and other volcanic islands.
Sunrise over Blowing Rocks of Coral Cove
However, there are areas that offer something close to it in Florida. One is the Blowing Rocks Preserve, which is limited in its operating hours to 9 am - 4:30 pm.
That is not a good thing for sunrise or sunset photography. As such, there is a small but beautiful alternative open sunrise to sunset. It is the Coral Cove Park located on Jupiter Island too.
Both places feature Anastasia Limestone on the shoreline, which looks beautiful at all times and during a high tide and winds from the East it can send the arriving waves high up in the air, up to 50 feet. But don't limit yourself to high tide only, low tide reveals more of the shoreline and gives the shore a different kind of beauty, even without the water in the air!
That just confirms no location should be underestimated or stereotyped. With so many online resources available, research your location ahead of time, show up, and have fun!
