Different Tones of Ice Fishing Buffalo's Outer Harbor

Winter sports and leisure. Ice Fishing the Buffalo Waterfront and Outer Harbor.Ice Fishing the Buffalo Outer Harbor When I arrived early this morning, well before sunrise, there was only one. Then two. And then there were three. It was cloudy, snowing, a great winter day with the right signature elements.

It was also fun to watch who's got more experience walking on the sheet of ice. Some made it look easy, some struggled, some even went down and polished the ice some more for those to come later.

This was captured in color, and I have initially processed it with bold colors to make the huts stand out. But then I thought why not try my favorite black and white for a more subtle winterly look.

I did two versions while at it, one with a yellow filter to darken the huts almost all the way to black, and one with a partial blue filter to brighten them up, keep things more subtle, and show more detail in the tent folds. Which one do you like the most? All three shown below.

Three tonal varieties of FIshing the Buffalo Outer Harbor, Winter Waterfront, Buffalo, New York (NY).Ice Fishing the Buffalo Outer Harbor - Tone Variations I also varied the shutter speed to see which version sows the snowfall the best. Here, I've selected one with a fast shutter of 1/400 sec. I liked the sharp snowflakes as opposed to the streaks in slower variations.

Have fun!
