Full Moonset over Cargill Pool Grain ElevatorBuffalo's Outer Harbor
Just a quick follow up today to my previous post (The Other Side of Gallagher Pier). There, I mentioned that my primary reason for being at the Gallagher Pier area was the moonset and I realized I had not shared that photo yet.
So here it is, full moon setting over Lake Erie with the South End Marina Cargill Pool Grain Elevator providing the foreground and location context on the Outer Harbor of Buffalo, New York.
In this photograph I felt I had the bext mix of daylight and darkness for all of the features to show nicely. The moon was bright enough to call for attention, yet not overexposed and the grain elevator clearly visible with enough detail. And yes, the clouds overhead give further clues to the time of the day as they were picking up a nice dose of color from the sun that was just moments from rising. I really enjoy the subtle show of color in the western sky at sunrise. While not the most obvious direction to look at at that time I always make sure I keep an eye out for it as it can provide some wonderful unexpected lighting conditions.
As the moon dipped lower and lower it actually almost disappeared in the layer of haze over Lake Erie. I waited the whole time not to miss it should it peek out through some mysterious opening but I guess haze is not like clouds that can open up at any moment. So capturing the moon even lower over the lake is left for another day.
Have fun and feel free to check out more of my photos of the Cargill Pool Elevator and Gallagher Pier!
