Last year, I decided to photograph all of the underground stations of the Buffalo Subway, or Metro Rail as it is officially called here. No, not an impossible task given the limited scope of that endeavor. There are only eight underground stations on a single line, running under Main Street. These eight stations combined with the six above ground ones create the line between the First Niagara Center (former HSBC Arena, the home of the Sabres) in the south and the South Campus of University at Buffalo in the north.
Since then, I had a few posts based on that photo project: Lines, light, and shadows at Summer - Best in Buffalo (August 2013), Buffalo Subway Collection (September 2013), The Underground Gallery (January 2014). Along the way, I was building the black and white Subway - Buffalo Metro Rail photo collection. This post marks the completion of that collection and the task of coming up with a new local project. But don't worry too much, I have a few more posts from the subway to make. While I liked the overall mood of the coffee tinted black and white shots there are scenes in that underground that do look their best in color and I plan on sharing those here with you soon.
A Hallway Across, Amherst Street StationThe Moment of Choice
As you go through the collection, you will notice that each station captivated me with something different. The benches, tunnels, arriving, departing, and passing trains, the escalators, the corridors, and more!
Have fun exploring the world under!
