Despite their proximity and fame I do not post much from Niagara Falls. Or is it because of their fame? Let's make an exception today and look at a couple winter scenes from there before this winter bids us farewell.

I always enjoy the walk through the state park on the US side. While definitely not a wilderness I prefer the more natural setting there to the theme park on the Canadian side. First up the river from the edge of the American falls where one can enjoy the immense power of the river at the upper rapids. Then the bridges to Green Island and Goat Island. Those I have not enjoyed much since the monster overlays have been installed years ago. The old stone bridges, that was a different story! On Goat Island, the path takes us back to the edge of the falls and a view of the American Falls from the opposite side than where we started. In summer, the walk to Luna Island is a nice add-on but in winter, that path is closed for some strange reasons.

From this wonderful viewpoint the path takes us to the Horseshoe Falls, which is the main attraction for many. And yes, it's quite the sight. But for me, the adventure does not end there. I like to continue up the river again towards the Three Sisters Islands where a completely different experience awaits. The power and the roar are replaced with more gentle scenes.

Even here, civilization is taking its toll. Everything is fenced off. I definitely enjoyed this area even more when one could stroll around without these eyesores, enjoy the humming of the water, watch birds, and make photographs of this hideaway from the hoards of tourists. At least on the touristy side, my experience has been that this area does not get as crowded as the main points.
