Boathouse Row, Part II in Black and White

March 27, 2020  •  Leave a Comment

As promised, here's the continuation of the boathouse post (Boathouse Row, Part I). At first, it was the colors of the individual boathouses that combined into a peculiar rainbow that caught my eye but as I walked around I started feeling a whole different attachment to the place. It radiated with an intense lonely mood of the many years it remembered.

For the first photograph, I opted for a different composition than the other ones. I went for a more symmetrical arrangement with the boardwalk straight down the middle. Stroll into the scene, look around, explore. I saw photographs everywhere and had to hold back.

This second scene should look familiar. I rarely do a double take, one in color and one in black and white, but this house with its siding, the posts, and the rope was too much to resist. With film photographs, I usually do not convert color to black and white, I prefer to stick with the choice I made on location. Here, I wanted both. One for the colorful eye catching feeling and one for the mood. And I bet this black and white version will make for a super darkroom print.

Spoiler alert! This does not conclude our exploration of the area, I have yet one more post before this series wraps up. I hope you'll come back soon to check it out.
