Fox Hollow Trail in the FallShenandoah National Park, Virginia

I know we have spring turning into summer in just a few days but as colors popped up everywhere I don't think it is too outrageous to share a fall scene from the woods of Shenandoah National Park. And yes, even green is a color! After so many months of bare trees and prevailing grays it's a pleasure to look around the landscape these days.

Unlike many other longer and more strenuous trails in the Shenandoah National Park, the Fox Hollow Trail is short and easy with just a gradual and very moderate elevation gain. 310 feet is below average for this park where most trails starting along the Skyline Drive drop into the valleys around in a much steeper fashion.

Yet, it is a beautiful walk in the woods with opportunities to see wildlife if you happen to be there at the right time and are quiet enough.

What I really liked in this scene was the complete tree tunnel with the canopies rounding over the trail combined with the colors of the fallen leaves and both warm fall colors and greens remaining on the trees. I always love at least a hint of green in my fall photographs to set the reds and yellows off. Even the logs in the distance worked great to show the woods in all of their glory!
