First 2017 SnowChestnut Ridge Park
When nature turned on the lake effect snow machine for the first time for the 2017 winter season only one place came to mind. I had fun with the same event there last year and it was like a magnet. So rather then trying to come up with an alternative I headed to the Chestnut Ridge park to see the winter wonderland in the woods and by that cottage hiding among the trees.
I got lucky as the snow was coming down pretty hard and that was what I came for.. The conditions were just about perfect! Well at least I thought so. But judging by the empty parking lot maybe others had a different opinion about perfect conditions. I certainly did not struggle with crowds getting in my shot.
I've been trying to accompany my photographs with the occasional video. And once I felt I've captured the mood in a still photograph I've recorded one here too, and I was happy I timed it right. You will see why. I left the original sound in the video. If you can't have sound turned on or if you don't like the sounds of wind, please, mute your speakers. The video did not seem right without the sound though.

And with the posting of the first white photo of this winter it's also time for changes to the home page. So long, colors!

Oklahoma became the 46th state to join the United States on November 16, 1907. The capital city is Oklahoma City. The highest point is Black Mesa at 4,973 feet.
Survived the 2013 TornadoMoore, OK Tornado

It was an intense experience. You can only be prepared for something like this so much. Despite all of the news coverage things become more real when you're standing on the spot yourself. Standing on the spot where a whole neighborhood stood just a month ago and now it's been turned into rubble.
The whole scene left behind the May 2013 twister in Moore, OK was really hard to take in. The way one could clearly tell the path was unsettling. A large path of devastation with clear and abrupt edges. One side of the street razed to the ground, the other with some damage but houses still standing. What a phenomenon!
Tornado DestructionAfter the 2013 Moore, OK Tornado
It's still terrifying even four years later, and even more so as tornadoes and their severity seems to be more prevalent and more widespread outside of tornado alley, and now even close to home with the EF2 rolling through Orchard Park on July 20, 2017, mere 2 miles from home.
This post prompted me to read more about what happened four years ago now that a lot of the collected data has been processed. And also about the area and the human point of view. Just look at how many tornadoes have been recorded in the Moore, OK vicinity since 1890! I've listed some of that reading below in references.
A pause, a moment of silence.

Buttons in ColorClay Button Pattern
Something a little different today as I am presenting the artwork of someone else. Sure, the photographs were taken by me but the objects depicted are clay buttons made by my daughter and therefore it's her deserving the credit.
If you are familiar with my website you know I have a gallery dedicated to Abstracts and Patterns. I am always on a lookout for some cool textures or patterns, whether man-made or natural. So when I saw all of these buttons I knew a photo shoot was coming.
Later on the computer, I also wondered how to further put more focus on the pattern. As many times in the past, removing color accomplished that very well in my opinion. For a comparison, you can see the black and white version below. Clicking on either of the two photos gets you in a large view and you can slide between the two back and forth (with your left and right keyboard arrows) to see which version you like better. Feel free to add a comment in that regard too.

Theater for Rainy DaysPalace Theatre
It's raining and the end of the daylight is fast approaching. What to do? It's been a while since I went out chasing theater neons and their reflections in the wet pavement. A quick decision and I was headed for Hamburg to see if I could come up with a new take on the Palace Theatre.
I stayed with the same concept from the last visit adding light trails of the passing traffic to the blue hour scene. But this time, I went across the street to make the streaks more dominant and to get more wet surface between me and the theater. I stayed around for about half an hour trying to catch just the right traffic pattern getting cars in both directions to have both red tail light and white head light trails for variety.
When the blue in the sky faded to black I did not pack my gear yet but went on a stroll through the village instead to scout for future opportunities. And I did not get far before finding one. Right at the main circle on Main and Buffalo Streets I found my next theme. It just had to wait for another day since it was too dark by then. So I let couple days pass and came right back, repeating the game of looking around and trying to time my exposure when cars were coming from all directions. The more directions cars came from and the bigger the variety of their circling around the better the pictures looked.

The calendar moved past mid-November, Thanksgiving is here, the colors have faded, and we have entered what I call the Gray Period ℠. The period will now last until snow covers the ground and trees and adds brightness and cleanliness to the landscape around us. It's during this period that I enjoy looking at colorful views preserved in photographs. Print them large, hang them on the wall, and the grayness can't get to you!
Today. I'm sharing the Top 9 most viewed photographs from my Autumn Photo Collection over the last 12 months. Enjoy the view here or click through to get a "hard copy" (may I suggest a large canvas gallery wrap).
Metal Prints provide a modern alternative to the classic canvas. You can also check out my complete online offering on the About > Products page.
